Celebration of Lafayette’s 1824 visit to Fluvanna
Step back in time to 1824 to celebrate one of the American Revolution’s icons, Marquis de Lafayette. Period Costumes or Patriotic Dress is encouraged! This outdoor celebration will be held rain or shine, and we encourage you to bring your own chair.
The celebration will begin with the dedication of The Lafayette Trail Marker near Currin’s Tavern. Lafayette will arrive from Columbia by carriage at 3:00 PM.
Outdoor festivities that will follow the dedication include singing of period and patriotic songs, dancing the Virginia Reel with the Fluvanna Flutterwheels, games, and a buffet that includes foods that would have been enjoyed by the group of Fluvanna Citizens in 1824.
Location: Lyles Baptist Church, 92 Lyles Church Lane, Palmyra, VA
(4 miles east of Palmyra at the end of Courthouse Road)
